King Edward Choir: Crowning Glory - A Musical Celebration
Collier Street United Church, 112 Collier Street, Barrie, ON
King Edward Choir presents Crowning Glory, a Musical Celebration concert.
Under the artistic direction of Leanne Edwards and accompanied by Katie Pergau, we pay tribute to the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and sing some traditional coronation themed classical pieces as well as some pieces of music from His Majesty's youth and some of the late Queen Elizabeth II's favourite and fun contemporary pieces.
King Edward Choir welcomes guest performers:
Pat Reid - Pipes Dan Pergau and Melanie Kappel - Violins Alyssa Wright - Cello
*note from Alyssa – Leanne and I did our music degrees together in the way back when. This is the first time performing together since the century began with the number "1", and I'm really excited to reunite with her, as well as play with the King Edward Choir once again!
Adults $25, Students $15
Remembering Michael Adamson – A Celebration of Life in Music
St. Paul's Anglican Church, 227 Church Street, Newmarket, ON
This is not a "show", per se, but many who know me and my music will remember the 12+ years I spent playing with Michael in the Amity Trio, as well as other configurations, and I'm sure many would like to come and help celebrate his life.
Sandra Ruttan – who many of you will also remember from the Amity Trio – and I will be contributing a bit of tango music to the event – Astor Piazzolla's "Le Grand Tango". Michael's brother Philip will also be playing a Brahms Intermezzo, the York Chamber Ensemble will perform, Stuart Beaudoin will perform an organ piece composed in Michael's honour, as well as the Bach Dorian Toccata, which Michael specifically requested. Those were the confirmed pieces and players as of February 21, more may be added.
The MacLaren Legacy Dinner offers an engaging evening of storytelling, conversation, and celebration – featuring two central elements: a performance by a special guest (chosen by the honourees) and presentation of the MacLaren Legacy Award to honour someone who has made a significant contribution to the MacLaren and to the broader community.
The MacLaren Legacy Dinner started in 1991 with a celebration recognizing Maurice MacLaren, who in his final will donated his house to what was at the time the Interim Gallery Project. In honour of this generous gift the Board of Directors renamed the fledgling art gallery, The MacLaren Art Centre.
This year we recognize Bob & Joan Gilroy for their outstanding philanthropy and volunteerism, not only to the MacLaren, but to many cultural activities as well as organizations that support people in need in the Barrie-Simcoe Area. This year’s dinner will feature music of local cellist and playwright, Alyssa Wright. The 2022 Legacy Dinner provides an opportunity for MacLaren friends, donors, and sponsors to gather together to honour Bob and Joan and enjoy an entertaining and inspiring evening to raise funds that will directly support a project that the Gilroy’s feel is important to our community.
Alyssa returns to Am Shalom to play the Kol Nidre service.
This is a religious service, not a concert. Full details at Am Shalom Congregation https://amshalom.ca/event/yom-kippur-kol-nidre-service-2/
With book by James Lapine, and Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim Into the Woods intertwines the stories of beloved Brothers Grimm’s characters as they search for their ‘happily ever after.’
The fairytale experience will be enhanced by the special guests attending each performance. Each patron is requested to bring with them two stuffed toys to ensure proper social distancing protocols, and occupy seats between them and the next group of patrons.
A small number of toys will be available on the premises in exchange for a donation to the Actors' Fund of Canada.
